Parent Tip

Reinforcing Language is proactive, specific, descriptive, and reflective. It can be very helpful

language to use with your kids. Here are some examples:

I notice that...

Tell me about your...

Remind us how to... (follow a rule)

Think about last time - what worked and what did we say you wanted to change?

Tell me how you are going to...(solve a problem)

What strategies did you use to solve the problem?

Show me a better way to do/say that.

Getting to Know

Melanie or Mel enjoys playing outside as well as playing on the computer. She is light on her toes, probably due to her involvement in Dance classes. She also keeps her mind sharp with Knowledge Bowl and Orchestra lessons.  One of her favorite place is Alabama, where she has vacationed on the beach with her family. Some of her other favorites are the TV show Spong Bob and the movie Despicable Me. If you are going to share a candy bar with her she would enjoy an Almond Joy. She probably wouldn't mind that with a little Moose Tracks ice cream on the side. Her favorite color and drink have one thing in common, they are both ORANGE!

Caleb is a football fan all the way! He also like fast moving, action filled movies! The Terminatto is one that tops his list. After a hard football game in his spare time you might find him drinking his favorite Gatoraid. His Favorite book is Death at Devil Bridge. Are you beginning to sense a pattern here? Excitment is where it's at with Caleb. I imagine he even provides some excitement for his pet hamsters. Some other favorites are : The color brown, apples, and P.E. (Who would have guessed!)

 READING

January Reading-

Students need to read at least two chapter books (at least120 pages each), one of these needs to be a Book Bonanza book. You can find the list on the Westwood page.

They also need to pass at least one AR test. Passing is 7 out of 10 or 3 out of 5. All of the Book Bonanza books are AR books.

The rest of the books students read are their CHOICE.

Students also need to do at least one BOOK LETTER on a book they read in Jan.

MATH

Make sure you are practicing those multiplication facts. Knowing those automatically is very important!

We are currently working on multiplying and dividing decimals. Next on the list is fractions.
