Did you Know?

Mrs. Nancy Streng has a Master's degree in Applied Psychology and is a full time counselor at Oak Hill. She meets with students individually, in small groups, and presents classroom social skills lessons. In the above photo, Mrs. Streng is learning about typical worries that third grade students have. Through the activity of building a "worry tower", students learn the importance of talking to adults about stressful situations in their life.

“Children and Learning”
It takes time for children to master new skills. For children who are struggling to learn a new skill, whether it is tying a shoe or solving a complicated math problem, it is helpful to break the task into smaller steps. This helps motivate children to keep trying and reduces the feeling of being overwhelmed. It is also helpful to talk about how the child has improved as he or she has mastered each step.

For young children, learning is more enjoyable if it is interspersed with other activities i.e. practicing spelling words while “helping” with dinner or while riding in the car. Older children can benefit from a routine, structured homework time. If there is not homework, the time set aside can be used for reading books, building activities, and solving puzzles - these are all ways children learn too.

Please feel free to contact the school at any time you have a question regarding your child’s learning. Often, school staff can suggest home activities that will enhance your child’s education and help to keep learning fun!

Children's Dental Services
St. Cloud School District is partnering with Children's Dental services to provide free or low-cost dental services to children in our schools. Please contact your child's teacher or myself if you would like an authorization form. Appointments will be made soon.
