			WELCOME I love teaching at Westwood School. I'm so impressed with the parent support. Yeah for all you wonderful parents! I have also taught 5th and 6th grade in Colorado and Arizona,in addition to teaching 5th grade in St. Cloud at Jefferson, North,and Discovery. I was also an elementary counselor in Colorado. READING Other than my family and teaching, reading is my passion. I hope that during this year your children will develop a love of reading that will last a lifetime. From watching them during silent reading, I can tell many have already developed that love of books. I have hundreds of books in my classroom for your children to borrow. Through the book orders and bookstore,I'm able to get many of the latest books. In fifth grade we want each student to read at least 20 minutes a day. More is great! Studies have shown that those students who read more comprehend better,have higher test scores, and most importantly, enjoy it more. In my reading class students should be reading at least a book a week. One of our year long projects is to Read to the Roof. Each month we keep track of all the books we have read. Last month our class read 224 books.
