			Introduction For the last 21 years, I have taught students with specific learning disabilities, in the St. Cloud School district. I teach small and large groups of students, both in the resource room and in the classroom. My role at Kennedy is to find ways to make it easier for your child to learn at school. What are Specific Learning Disabilities? Students with specific learning disabilities (SLD)have problems processing information, which means they have trouble understanding or using what they see or hear. They may do well in some school subjects, but they have extreme difficulty with certain skills such as reading words, computing math facts, or getting their thoughts into writing.

When someone suspects a student has a learning disability, a referral for a special education evaluation is made. A team, which includes you the parent, meets together, conducts an evaluation and decides if the student meets state and federal guidelines for special education.
