German 1
Nov. 17: We watched a three-minute video on St. Martin's Day celebrations in Germany. Then, we began working with telling time in German. Parents, please check to be sure your child knows how to tell time on an analog clock as several were struggling with that concept. It is something that they must know for the unit.

Nov. 16: Several students had completed their assignment. They received total points for it and coupons for cookies at the coffee shop. Then, we practiced the stories again. Students worked on their crossword puzzles so that they do not have so much to do at the end of the unit.

Nov. 13: We practiced the first six stories in Unit 2. Students will have to be able to retell them before the chapter test. Then, we read through two stories in their packets. We answered the questions for one of them, working together. Students are to read and answer the questions for story 2-6 for Monday.

Nov. 12: Students wrote quizzes 2-3 and 2-4. Then we continued working on vocabulary for sections 2-5 and 2-6. Students then worked with some time expressions. They have an assignment due tomorrow, matching time expressions with one another.

Nov. 11: Students received vocabulary for sections 2-5 and 2-6. Additionally, they learned the names of the months of the year. We attempted to watch a video of the celebration at the Berlin Wall.

Nov. 10: IS

Nov. 9: We discussed the movie that we watched on Friday.

Nov. 6: We watched a movie, documenting the fall of the Berlin wall.

Nov. 5: Students wrote quizzes 2-1 and 2-2. Next, we played Steh auf! with the vocab from 2-3 and 2-4. Then, I began giving them vocabulary words for 2-5 and 2-6. Their quizzes on 2-3 and 2-4 will be Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Nov. 4: We read stories on pages 1, 2, and 4. I practiced with students, answering the questions for the stories on page 4 so that they would learn how to answer questions. Then, we practiced stories 1 - 4 well. They have 2 quizzes tomorrow.

Nov. 3: Students practiced their stories and small conversations. Then they worked in their groups on their skits.

Nov. 2: IS day--students who had missing work worked on it.

Oct. 30: We played LOTTO, using German Halloween vocabulary.

Oct. 29: Students received the vocabulary for sections 2-3 and 2-4. Then, we worked through the conversations that go with the first four stories. Students have both pictures and words to study for their stories. Finally, students worked on completing the rest of the crossword puzzle. It is due on Monday, Nov. 2, Day 1 if upperclassmen wish to leave. Others may complete it during that hour.

Oct. 28: We played Steh auf with vocab for 2-1 and 2-2. Then, students had small conversations. Finally, they worked on their crossword puzzles.

Oct. 27: We began sections 1 and 2 of Unit 2. Students may begin working on the crossword puzzle on the back page of their packets.

Oct. 26: Students took the Unit 1 test. We corrected it as well. We start Unit 2 on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Oct. 23: IS Day Selected students stayed in the room to work on missing work. The Unit 1 test is on Monday, Oct. 26. ALL late work for the unit is due on that day.

Oct. 22: We reviewed numbers and prepositions; we played Steh auf! for sections 7 and 8. The Unit 1 test is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26. ALL work for the unit must be submitted before students write the final test. Tomorrow is an IS day for students to complete activities.

Oct. 21: We corrected page 15. Then students worked with blocks to learn the placement prepositions. Then, students listened to a few dialogs and completed packet activities for them. Finally, we reviewed the Halloween song and vocabulary.

Oct. 20: Since nine students were gone for testing, we reviewed Halloween vocabulary and will correct page 15 tomorrow. The Unit 1 test is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26. ALL work for the unit must be submitted before students write the final test.

Oct. 19: We worked with Halloween vocabulary and with a Halloween song. Additionally, we continued with numbers. We'll correct page 15 tomorrow.

Oct. 14: We corrected the crossword puzzles and continued working on numbers. Page 15 is due on Tuesday.

Oct. 13: IS Day

Oct. 12: Students took the quizzes for 1-5 and 1-6. We corrected page 14 in their packets. Then, they learned the vocab words for 1-7 and 1-8.

Oct. 9: Students continued in their learning circles. Four groups finished. Students also worked on their crossword puzzles which are due on Wednesday. They have quizzes 1-5 and 1-6 on Monday.

Oct. 8: Students presented their style shows. Then they began studying their verbs in learning circles.

Oct. 7: Their style shows are due tomorrow. Their quizzes on 1-5 and 1-6 are Monday.


German 2
Nov. 17: We read through chapters 3, 4, and 5 in German. Then, we worked together so that students learn how to answer questions in complete sentences. We will finish this tomorrow. Students will have a quiz on Friday. We will then begin Unit 6.

Nov. 16: Students reported their work on the various chapters.

Nov. 13: We corrected the chapter 5 test. Then students were divided into groups of three to work on various chapters in the Hilde und Günter series. They are to report their work on Monday.

Nov. 12: Students wrote the Chapter 5 test.

Nov. 11: Students listened to the song "Mein Haus" and wrote down missing words. We attempted to watch a video of the celebration at the Berlin Wall.

Nov. 10: IS

Nov. 9: A few groups presented their skits. Then we talked about the movie.

Nov. 6: We watched a movie, documenting the fall of the Berlin wall.

Nov. 5: Students wrote the listening portion of quizzes 5-7 and 5-8. Then, we worked with modal sentences as a review for the coming test. Their skits are due on Monday; the test is on Wednesday.

Nov. 4: Students worked with circle cards to reinforce different chores and activites learned in the unit. Their skits are due on Nov. 9; the chapter 5 test is on Nov. 11.


Nov. 3: We worked on the first two chapters of Hilde und Günter. Students are to complete 14 questions on them for tomorrow. They are to answer the questions in complete sentences. Their skits are due on Nov. 9; the chapter 5 test is on Nov. 11.

Nov. 2: IS day--students who had missing work worked on it.

Oct. 30: We played LOTTO, using German Halloween vocabulary.

Oct. 29: We corrected the crossword puzzles. I worked with students on their skits.

Oct. 28: Students worked on their skits and their crossword puzzles, both of which are due at the beginning of class tomorrow.

Oct. 27: Students worked with various chores and activities. Then they worked on writing their skits.

Oct. 26: Students got the last sets of vocabulary for Unit 5 and worked on them. They are to complete crossword puzzles on 21 and 22 for Wednesday. The rough drafts of their skits are due on Thursday.

Oct. 23: IS Day--selected students remained to work on missing work.

Oct. 22: We played Steh auf! and then students wrote the quizzes for sections 5+6.

Oct. 21: We completed the Ohrwurm activities. When the seniors returned, we watched a student video to share what I would like for their videos. In the final moments, students divided into their groups and began working on their skits. The rough drafts for their skits are due next Thursday. The drafts will be returned to them on Friday. The skits themselves are due on Nov. 3. They may be presented live or presented as a video.

Oct. 20: All 10th graders were gone testing, so we didn't really have class.

Oct. 19: We continued with vocab for 5 + 6.

Oct. 14: We continued with vocabulary for sections 5 + 6.

Oct. 13: IS Students submitted their floor plans.

Oct. 12: I returned the quizzes. Students got the vocab for 5-6. We spoke more about German homes. Then, we worked with modal verbs. They are to rewrite two paragraphs, using modals. Their floor plans are due tomorrow.

Oct. 9: Students wrote quizzes 5-3 and 5-4. Then, we began learning the vocab for 5-5. Their floor plans with 30 marked items are due on Tuesday.

Oct. 8: Students played Steh auf and worked on their crossword puzzles.

Oct. 7: Students are giving their direction skits. Then, we'll review modals again.

Nov. 6: We watched a movie, documenting the fall of the Berlin wall.

Nov. 5: Students shared translations of the second chapter of Die Spur führt nach Bayern. Then, students completed a rearrange activity on the big screen. They are to answer the questions after the chapter for Monday.

Nov. 4: Julia--an exchange student from Germany--came in to work with students on chapter 2 of Die Spur führt nach Bayern. Students have about 25 lines of the story to translate into English for tomorrow.

Nov. 3: We worked through some activities with the Komm mit text. Then, students wrote their test for Die Spur führt nach Bayern. Finally, students are to complete a worksheet that is similar to the activities that we did on the big screen earlier in the hour. It is due tomorrow.

Nov. 2: IS day--students who had missing work worked on it.

Oct. 30: We played LOTTO, using German Halloween vocabulary.

Oct. 29: We corrected the workbook pages from yesterday. Then, we listened to a CD of four German students describing themselves and what they like to do. Students are to write ten sentences with the information gained from the CD.

Oct. 28: Students who had not completed their workbook pages or their 20 sentences completed them. Then, they read silently in their readers and paraphrased what they had read.

Oct. 27: One of the exchange students came in to work with the students in their new readers. They are to have one section translated for tomorrow.

Oct. 26: Students reviewed vocabulary for chapter 1, section 1. They are to complete workbook pages 2 and 3 for tomorrow; additionally, they are to choose a picture of a person and write twenty sentences in German describing that person. Both are due tomorrow.

Oct. 23: IS Day Students played cards with German 2. The game reinforces a set of vocabulary words as well as direct objects.

Oct. 22: We corrected page 8 from the textbooks. Students wrote the quiz for chapters 10-12 of Rätsel. Then, they joined German 2 to play Steh auf!

Oct. 21: We watched the opening film for the textbook. Students are to complete page 8 of the text for tomorrow. Their quiz on sections 10-12 of Rätsel is also tomorrow.

Oct. 20: We corrected the last page in the grammar packet. I introduced the first chapter in the textbook and showed them the website for the materials.

Oct. 19: We read through the chapters 10-12 in Rätsel. Then we corrected page 3 in their grammar packets. The last page is due tomorrow.

Oct 14: Several students were gone, so we played cards with German vocabulary.

Oct. 13: IS

Oct. 12: We studied the text for chapter 10, 11, and 12 of Rätsel. Then, we corrected the second page of the grammar packet. Students are to complete the third page for Oct. 14.

Oct. 9: Students wrote their quizzes. They are to do page 2 of the grammar review packet--half verb forms and half cases. Some students present chapters 10 - 12 on Monday.

Oct. 8: We corrected the cases sheet. Several students did very well. Their quiz on chapters 7-9 is tomorrow.

Oct. 7: We read Rätsel, 7-9 aloud. Students are to complete sections 1 + 2 on their Falsch Agentin sheets. Their quiz on vocab for 7-9 is on Friday, Oct. 9.
