About Mrs. Ritter Mrs. Ritter was born in Rockford, Illinois, but grew up in many states including Minnesota, Florida, and Indiana. She went to school at Gustavus Adolphus where she studied Elementary Education and Spanish. She has been teaching for 4 years. Mrs. Ritter loves teaching 3rd grade and this is her 3rd year of 3rd grade! She lives with her husband, Mr. Ritter (a gym teacher and coach at Kennedy Community School) in St. Joseph. She likes scrapbooking, traveling, spending time with friends and family, games, kayaking, craft projects, volunteering, shopping, reading, learning, helping the girls' fastpitch team, and making jewelry. Ritter Review October 7, 2010 Dear parents, With conferences, MEA, and Pippi in our future, this month is flying by! Please call or email me with any questions or concerns. Sincerely, Kelli Ritter Kelli.ritter@isd742.org 259-4718 7:40-7:50 Morning Work- Daily Communication Sheet (Yellow Sheet) Please send this form back and forth with your child each day. This is our constant line of communication. I do look at them each day and write notes when needed. I collect these sheets on the following Monday so I can see if parents had any concerns or questions over the weekend. Thanks for your support and help in this task. 8:10-8:30 Spelling (Mondays and Fridays) Spelling words should be practiced at home each night. We do a little practice during the week, but the majority of your student’s study time is at home. Most words fit a pattern each week. This week we have been studying long e. We also have 1-4 vocabulary words each week that are a little more challenging. This week our vocabulary term is tumbleweed. It will appear in our story, The Three Javelinas. 8:10-10:00 Daily 5/Reading CAFÉ We are working on story elements including characters, setting (both time and place), problem, solution, and events. I encourage you to ask your child to tell you some of the elements in a story they are reading. This will help you and your child check to see if they comprehend what they are reading or if the book is too difficult. 11:06-11:46 Lunch and Recess 11:50-1:20 Math Right now we are in Unit 2. This unit works a lot with basic facts (addition and subtraction), story problems, borrowing, carrying, and multiple addends. Students can improve by practicing their addition or subtraction flashcards. 1:20-1:50 Social Studies/Science The first couple weeks of Science will be a health program called Second Steps. This focuses on choices and behaviors. In Social Studies we have been working on elements of a map. We started this week by working on making a picture of a compass rose. 1:50-2:15 Read Aloud We are reading Pippi Longstocking to prepare for our play next Thursday! Help Wanted Do you have any of the following recycled items that you would like to donate? The fronts of used greeting cards (we cut them for colorful book marks) Empty frosting containers with lids shoeboxes Thank You! Thank you to all families for helping kids through the first month of school. It is hard to get back to earlier bedtimes after the summer. I appreciate all you do in preparing your children for school. |
