I am really enjoying getting to know  your children this year. Personally I have a couple of hopes and dreams for this school year. First and most importantly I hope to create a learning environment where all students feel safe and respected. I am also embarking on a new direction in my reading program. I will be implementing the Daily 5/CAFE style of instruction. My dream is that this will create fluent reader of all my students. Math- We have just completed our first math unit on geometry and are now working on place value and data analysis. Your child will be working on reading tables and graphs, as well as creating some of his/her own. We will also be starting to practice the multiplication facts later in October.  So please take some time to practice these at home. The more fluently your child knows the facts the easier many of the math concepts will be.

Spelling- we will have a weekly spelling list that works on reading skills. Homework for spelling is as follows: Monday - Pretest and write misspelled words 3 times, Tuesday - Printing and cursive, Wednesday - Worksheet, Thursday - Write all words once, 5 sentences and 3 questions, Friday - Test

Reading- Our focus will be on reading books at a just-right reading level for each student. With this all students will be expected to read and take 2 AR tests on books at their level each month.
Mrs. Coulter and I will also be rewarding students who are successful in all areas with end of the month parties.
