			Newsletter Hello and happy Winter Olympics season! The students have been doing a great job sharing their current events about the Winter Olympics. We have read a variety of articles from Sports Illustrated for Kids about the Winter Olympics. (Tip: A great gift to give your child is a magazine subscription. The children were really excited to read magazines written at their reading level!) Each child has researched a sport and created a poster about it. Please look at the posters above our lockers to see some amazing work! In math, we are completing our geometry unit. The third graders have learned about parallel and intersecting lines, line segments and rays. They have learned about polygons, quadrangles, angles, turns, symmetrical and congruent shapes. In addition, they have studied polyhedrons like cones, spheres, prisms, pyramids, and cubes. This unit has kept our brains very busy learning about many new things! Please continue to practice multiplication. Most of the children have earned their multiplication sundae. I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to all the families who volunteered to provide toppings for our ice cream sundae party. I will send the original note back to you with the item(s) circled that we need. Now, every child is taking 3 minute multiplication tests involving all the multiplication facts they have learned this year. The third graders are graphing their individual results on these tests. REMINDERS: Study Island is working. Each of the children have taken a pretest in math and reading. Your child is welcome to work at home on assignments I have created on Study Island for them. Next week, they will begin their descriptive stories. We incorporate the 6 trait writing process and writer¡¦s workshop philosophy during these writing experiences. The children are improving at these processes as they continue to write more and more.ƒº The date of our third grade winter Olympics has been changed. Please look at the yellow Daily Communication Form for the new date. I learned about a new website at the convention I went to last week. I have taught the children some of the games on this website. It is a great site that encourages problem solving. The website is www.setgame.com . I currently do not have this as a link on my Kennedy School staff page; however, there are some great sites on this page.
