Books to read at home
Any reading you do at home with your child is important as long as the content is appropriate. It is good to read a variety of books with a variety of themes or topics, but other skills are also learned by reading the same book over and over.
* find a comfortable place to read
* Ask them to predict what will happen next
* Ask them to review what happened in the book
* Ask them what their favorite part of the book is and why
* Have them look for the classroom letter/color/word in the book.
* Follow the words with your finger while you read
* Talk about the story during other times like while driving or working on dinner
* Re-read the story, stop and let them finish the sentences, if they can.
* Ask them if they could be any character in the book, who would they be? and why?
* If they could change the story, what would they change?
* Look for words they know
* Read the author & illustrators names and remind them that the author writes the words, and the illustrator draws the pictures

Letter of the week
Check the daily note for the letter of the week. Encourage your child to look for that letter in all environments, in the beginning, middle and end of words. Remind them what sound it makes and help them think of words that start with that sound.

Word/shape/number/color of the week
Look for our word of the week, number of the week, shape and color of the month in all environments. It is important to support our current learning in all environments to cement their knowledge.
