Note from the Principal
Happy Summer to Everyone! The 2008-09 school year has come to a close and we begin preparing for what should be an exciting 2009-10 school year. As I look back on the past school year, it was a good year for our students and staff at Apollo High School. Many students succeeded beyond their expectations and we feel privileged to work with each of our students everyday.

An area of remarkable improvement has been the overall behavior of our students. Since 2005, the data show a consistant decrease in the number of Office Discipline Referrals (ODRs) For example, in 2005-06, 65% of our student population had zero or one ODR over the course of the year. This past year, 87% of our students had zero or one ODR. Likewise, the data show less students (14% to 2%) with six or more ODRs over the past four years.

There are many factors that have influenced the overall decrease in ODRs. Apollo's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)initiative has focused on teaching our students Safety, Optimism, Acceptance, and Respect. Please see the attached link to Apollo's SOAR Matrix for our student expectations. We continue to have a strong collaboration with the area counties in dealing with truancy issues of our students. A College Access and Opportunity grant in partnership with SCSU has helped in identifying our under represented students who need significant academic assistance. In addition, the District 742 Integration program has allowed us to provide resources for our Apollo students and families and create a more proactive environment for students and staff.

Apollo High School is committed to continuing the trend of decreased Office Discipline Referrals and we need all students, staff, and families on board to keep the trend moving forward.
