			My Classroom My classroom has 24 students - 14 boys and 10 girls. Our Class Schedule 7:30 - 7:50 Preparation for the day/Morning Work 7:50 - 8:15 Attendance/Morning Meeting/Sharing 8:15 - 8:45 Large Group Language Arts Lesson 8:45 - 9:00 Writing Workshop 9:00 - 9:20 Bathroom Break/Snack Time 9:20 - 10:20 Guided Reading/Literacy Centers (Computer Lab. on Fridays) 10:20 - 10:35 Choice Time 10:40 - 11:20 Recess/Lunch 11:20 - 11:40 Calendar/Weather/Story Time 11:40 - Units (Social Studies, Science, Social Skills, Health, Seasonal Units) 1:00 or 1:15 - 2:00 Math Our Afternoon Schedule varies daily. The following is the day we have each special class: Monday - Music, Phy. Ed. Tuesday - Music, Phy. Ed. Wednesday - Phy. Ed., Music Thursday - Phy. Ed., Music Friday - Computer Lab., Art, Library *On Tuesday mornings, we will also have a time to check out a new library book, if your child returns their other book, and would like to. Fridays are the whole-class library days. *Please send shoes appropriate for running and playing in the gym every day, except Fridays when we do not have Phy. Ed.
						My Links Reading Fun Early Learning Games Reading and Math Activities Games Related to our Math Lessons Homework "The Rule of Thumb" for homework is usually 10 minutes per day per grade level (not counting Kindergarten). First Graders should be averaging about 10 - 15 minutes of study time at home per day. Your child should try to read an average 10 minutes each day, once they get into their reading books that will be sent home. Practicing stories multiple times is the key to increasing word recognition and fluency! Books read (or individual chapters read for higher-level readers)can be recorded on a "Hooked on Books" slip and sent to school for points toward items in our KRIS (Kennedy Reading Incentive Store) Store, so your child can be rewarded for their time spent reading. Reading homework will be sent home one night per week - usually on Thursdays. On other nights, you and your child can read library books, or books from home to record on their "Hooked on Books" slips. Other than the reading homework, your 1st grader will have math homework sent home 1 night per week - usually on Tuesdays. Math homework will consist of Math Homelinks which are sheets to practice the math skills we are working on in school. Sometimes there will also be some math facts to practice. Spelling does not start until the 2nd half of 1st grade. All homework will be sent home in a Homework folder (yellow for math, and purple for reading). Please complete the homework and send it back to school after 1 or 2 school days in the same folder.
