Many parents have questions regarding when a student should stay home due to illness. In general, the following guidelines are used: -Elevated Temperature- above 99.8 degrees within the last 24 hours( normal 98.6) -Vomiting-within the last 24 hours -Diarrhea- within the last 24 hours -Strep Throat- minimum of 24 hours on antiobiotic before returning to school -Nose discharge- thick,colored drainage -Head lice- until treatment with medicated shampoo or oil treatment and/or no live lice found -Chicken Pox- stay home until all blisters have dried scabs(about 6-10 days) -Pink eye-refers to an inflamed eye. it oftens includes a crusty discharge form the eye and redness to the white area of the eye(Sclera)If eye drops are prescribed by your doctor, allow 24 hours dosing of the drops before returning to school. -Skin Rash- rashes may or may not be contagious but only a doctor can diagnose it, stay home and contact your clinic. -Cough- repetitive coughing that interfers with child's work,activity or play.contact your doctor for evaluation. If these symptoms occur at school,parents or emergency contact will be called to send a student home. |

Attention Ninth Graders:If you received your last physical as a seventh grader and want to paricipate in sports this fall- Update your sports physical this summer.Make appointments early, clinics are busy! ATTENTION COLLEGE BOUND SENIORS: As you prepare to go off to college in the near future, ask your family Doctor about receiving the Meningitis vaccine for prevention of meningocccal disease.College students are at risk for this disease and it's recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Methicillin Resistant Staphlococcus Aureus-MRSA Parents be alert to this skin infection!! Staph bacteria are commonly found in the nose and skin of people and normally doesn't cause infections,but when it does, it produces a boil or abscess that is red,warm,swollen and painful. If your child reports a boil or blister that is tender or painful, contact your doctor for evaluation. Prompt treatment can prevent the condition from getting worse. Preventive tips: Wash hands frequently, cover infected areas with clean,dry dressings and wash hands after changing bandages or touching infected area,don't share razors, towels, or sports equipment. COVER YOUR COUGH!! Some of the best prevention for colds and cough this winter is the simplest: 1.Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough,or cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands! 2.Dispose of tissues in wastepaper basket. 3. Clean you hands after coughing and sneezing using soap and warm water or clean with an alcohol-based hand cleanser. |
