MATH
This week we began a unit on Multiplication/Division. Your child will be bringing home some triangle flashcards soon. Be sure to practice daily until he/she knows them quickly and accurately. This unit will expand on these basic skills to include problem solving, open sentences with variables, parentheses and true and false number sentences.

SCIENCE
In science we are learning about "Rocks and Minerals". The students are working like geologists to take apart a mock rock to determine what ingredients are in it. Next week we'll begin learning about minerals. The students will perform a scratch test to identify minerals by their hardness. They will also learn how to test rocks for the mineral calcite. A study guide was sent home Thursday to help your child prepare for the test which is November 13th.

RAINFOREST RESEARCH
Our reading theme is "Earth Patrol: Preserve and Protect" so we have been reading about the environment and ways to protect it. The students are researching facts about the four layers of a rainforest (Emergent, Canopy, Understory and Forest Floor) and putting the information into a flipbook.
