Kindergarten News
Field Experience Students
I am happy to share that we have three field experience students working in our classroom. They started two weeks ago and will continue working in our room through the beginning of December. Ms. Huhta and Ms. Niehoff are from St. Cloud Sate and Mrs. Calandar is from St. Cloud Technical College. The students have been reading aloud to the children, working with them in small groups, and working 1 on 1 with them.
Conferences
I had a wonderful time sharing your child’s progress with you at conference. I am excited for you to see their growth when we meet again in the spring. As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress please let me know and we can discuss these further.
No School Dates
Over the next three weeks we have a couple no school days that you need to be aware of. There will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28th. There will also be NO SCHOOL on Monday, December 1st as we will be having our 2nd teacher inservice day.
Guided Reading
Today your child will be bringing home their very first guided reading book. Encourage your child to read the entire book to you or another family member. If your child gets stuck on a word, please refer to the reading strategies sheet in the guided reading envelope in your child’s BEE Book. Remind them to LOOK AT THE PICTURES, and if that doesn’t do the trick have your child start sounding out the word. Please fill out the reading record and mark the appropriate boxes.
Letters
Over the next three weeks we will be wrapping up our intensive focus on letters and the letter sounds. Of course we will continue to work with these throughout our Kindergarten year. With letter and sound knowledge, readers will grow. It is amazing how fast the children pick up on reading…get ready for many proud moments at home!
