Class attendance is essential to success in high-school and even a legal requirement!

Seven (7) unexcused class absences over the course of a school year are a violation of state law with consequences that can involve assignment of a county social worker and attending court.

Five (5) unexcused tardies equal one unexcused absence.

Parents can monitor student attendance online at home. Complete the Attendance Tracking form in the My Links section on this page. Give the form to Apollo’s attendance office.

Parents can also call me or the attendance office for a current attendance report.

Absences
Unexcused Absences or Skips:

Many students who are marked truant to class (TUC) are in the commons (cafeteria) or Iggies (the school coffee shop) talking with friends who have independent study time.

Apollo is a high-school that grants students many privileges but expects students to act responsibly and meet their obligations.

It is the student's responsibility to check in with each teacher to confirm that he or she has all homework/assignments turned in and is allowed to have independent study time.

Students who are 15 minutes late or more to class are also marked as truant (TUC) because these students have greatly disrupted class.

Other students who are marked truant (TUC) leave class early without permission. To ensure student safety, teachers must know where their students are. Students must obtain permission prior to leaving class early.

Students who feel ill are required to check in with their teacher and to get a pass to go to the nurse’s office.

4. Parent Meeting held at Apollo

5. Parent and student attend a Truancy Information Meeting (TIM) at Apollo or Tech
6. Assigning a County Social Worker for one calendar year

7. Court appearance where the County Judge can: withhold or suspend driver's license until age 18, impose: community service, fines, electronic monitoring, placement outside the home, and week(s) at a boys or girls work camp.

Excused Absences:

Sometimes absences are necessary due to illness, doctor and dentist appointments, or family emergencies.

Please notify the school by phone or note of any excused absences as soon as they occur. We appreciate families doing their best to schedule appointments after school or at times that cause the least disruption to their child's school day.

Students with more than 15 days of illness are required to provide a doctor's note to verify continued absence from school.
