Behavior and Basic Needs
All behaviors are purposeful. Behaviors are our best attempt to get us want we want. What we all want is:

Love and Belonging (connecting)
Power (competence, accomplishment)
Freedom (to decide for yourself - to choose)
Fun (enjoyment)
Survival (physical and emotional safety)

When we don't get what we want our thinking, feeling, acting, and physiology tell us that things are out of balance.

The Seven Connecting Habits
Use these CONNECTING HABITS to build positive relationships:
Listening
Accepting
Trusting
Respecting
Negotiationg Differences

Avoid these DEADLY HABITS - They build walls between people rather than bring them together:
Criticizing
Blaming
Complaining
Nagging
Threatening
Punishing
Rewarding to Control

Discipline Without Stress
1. Positivity (be positive and proactive)
2. Choice Thinking (you ALWAYS have a choice)
3. Reflective Thinking (What do you want? What are you doing? Is it working? What's your plan?)
4. Teach procedures rather than set rules.
