			New Year As we start a new of learning together, let me begin by wishing all of you a very happy start to 2009. In the second half of the year we will focus on mastering skills that were introduced during the first half of the year and introducing skills that will be mastered in third grade. Homework Students will begin homework regularly now. This week your child will get their homework folder. On one side it will say do and on the other side it will say done. Homework will come home on Mondays and will be due back on Fridays. This will start on January 12, 2009 I highly recommend that you set aside a regular time that homework is to be done. Twenty minutes a day is appropriate for a child in second grade. Please make this time as distraction free as possible.
						Language Arts/Science We will be focusing on writing skills, word attack skills and comprehension skills in Language Arts. We will continue our study of animal classification in Science. Students will be writing about chosen animal groups and about specific animals in the new year. Some students will be performing their science play in February. We will be done with our study of animal classification following our play performance.
